It all started in 1927 when OK Bazaars was opened in Johannesburg, by Michael Miller and Sam Cohen. It soon grew to become a well-known brand, and in 1929 was listed on the JSE. By the late 1960s, there were already 100 stores across South Africa. In 1996, their furniture section became a separate entity, known as OK Furniture. The pressure from competitors became intense during the 80s and early 90s, and in 1997, headlines were made when the OK Group was sold to Shoprite for only R1. Today there are more than 500 stores in South Africa. The company has since started to increase their marketing, upgraded their stores, and trade with the slogan “Delivering the Goods – No Problem”. Their stores can be found throughout South Africa, in Richards Bay, Claremont, Kimberley, Stellenbosch, Newcastle and Rustenburg.
