KWIKSPAR is part of the SPAR group, which was founded in 1932, by Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well. From that first SPAR store in the 1930s, numerous followed, and by the early 2000s, they had stores in 48 countries. Today, there are numerous other divisions such as KWIKSPAR, Build It, and SaveMor. In South Africa, there are more than 100 KWIKSPAR stores, in cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Stellenbosch, Pinetown and Margate.

The stores are smaller than SPAR outlets (usually 300 – 700 square meters) and although they don’t stock as much products as the larger stores, they do have fresh produce, baked goods, and also ready-to-eat meals.
