SPAR stores were founded more than 90 years ago in the Netherlands by Adriaan van Well. Today they have more than 13 000 stores in over 40 countries. In 1963, the first SPAR store was established in South Africa, and today there are numerous divisions of the SPAR group, namely SPAR (general shopping), SPAR Express (situated conveniently next to selected Shell petrol stations), KWIKSPAR (for everyday convenience), and SUPERSPAR (largest division of the SPAR group).
